Durian, the King of Fruits, is the only banned fruit from airline cabins, hotels and public transportation. Tastes like Heaven, smells like Hell; is a fruit either you love it or you hate it. Me? I hate it. It is the most highly prized fruit and thus it is being crowned as the KING of fruits. Durians are usually sold with the Queen of Fruits, mangosteen, as it is said that mangosteens which is a cooling fruit, will help reduce the heatiness from durians.
Durians are one of the most commonly eaten fruits in Singapore and I can say majority of the Singaporeans love to eat durians! There are durian trips, durian marathon and Goodwood Park Hotel organizes an annual Durian Fiesta and durian buffet!
The Esplanade - Theatres on the Bay, is a performing arts center that houses dining, shopping and performing arts. This year, its architectural element has won the President;s Design Award Singapore 2015. The original design presented in 1994 consists of unadorned glass cases over the theatres and has received much criticisms. Aluminium sunshades were then added and the final design resembles durians or the eyes of a housefly. Thus, the Esplanade is also often referred as "the durians" by Singaporeans. This makes durians an even more remarkable food item in Singapore alongside other must-try dishes in Singapore such as chilli crab and Hainanese chicken rice.
