Day 6 - Pop-up Food Festival, Ichiran, Sailor Moon Dim Sum

Started the day off with breakfast at Ichiran Ramen! The store at where I stayed, Causeway Bay, operates 24hrs! It was so so good! Just the broth and noodles are good enough, that’s how good it was! Next, I went to Tong Chong Street Market, an annual pop-up market that is available only every Sunday, from now till next year February. This month’s theme was COFFEE, awesome! It features various brands of coffee and various types of coffee, as well as some innovative food, merchandises and a game station. What captured my attention was Grassman’s Latte in a Cookie Cup, and Vitasoy. The cookie cup was rimmed with dark chocolate, as well as the inside, then sprinkled with hundreds and thousands. The coffee is not that good, and the chocolate started to melt with the heat from the coffee, it starts to taste more like mocha. But since it’s a street market, it’s innovation that matters, and not quality. Loveramics was there as one of merchandise sponsors, selling their pretty latte glasses at just HK$20 each! To promote environment friendly, reducing the use of paper cups.

Next, went back to Kam Wah to try their French Toast and reordered the Satay Beef Sandwich, as it was so good! This time round I remembered to order with egg (+HK$3) and get it toasted (+HK$2). The additional fried egg and toasting really do make the sandwich even more tasty! The Hong Kong style French Toast is made in a different way - 2pcs of egg dipped bread with peanut butter filling, then fried.

On my way to Ladies Market, passed by a Chinese medicine shop and got some candies and Peppa Pig snacks for my nephews. Things at Ladies Market are so expensive! I wanted to get some Hong Kong souvenirs here but all so expensive! Starting price is always 3-digit! HK$100 is already SG$17.70. Only got some toys for my nephews. After exiting Ladies Market, passed by this Hong Kong brand boba tea shop, Dakasi Tea. Their Brown Sugar Boba Milk has a star drawn on it using brown sugar syrup. But sorry, the taste and the bobas lose to all the big players. Xing Fu Tang still the best!

#13: It looks kind of pretty and unique, but it taste just normal. Cannot compare with the big players!
Went to Dim Sum Icon for dinner. This place serves pretty and cute dimsum in rotating themes, and the theme during this trip is Sailor Moon! The dim sum here is a lot more expensive than standard dim sum places, but lots of effort is put into designing and making the food! Dim sum is not an easy cuisine in the first place, small and delicate. Plus, the food does not only look pretty, it taste great too! Honestly, I only knew Sailor Moon and none of the remaining characters. So learnt something new during this meal! Got the Luna and Artemis Custard Lava Buns, 5-characters Scallop and Prawn Chee Cheong Fun, 5-colour Har Gow, and the Sailor Mercury Blueberry Ice Blended. The 5-colour Har Gow represents each colour of the 5 sailors, and I didn’t expect them to be of 5 different flavours as well! So much effort!

After which, popped by Hanjuku Kobo to get some palmiers! Palmier is a kind of butterfly-shaped sweet French pastry that has also became an iconic item of Hong Kong. You almost don't see anyone selling palmiers in Singapore. I first try it when Maxim (美心)'s mooncakes and pastries were brought in during Mid-Autumn Festival many years ago. It was so good, I ate like 4 boxes of palmiers in a row! Hanjuku Kobo offers palmiers in 7 amazing flavours - original, purple sweet potato, salted egg, earl grey, chocolate, black sesame and matcha! They all taste so damn good! If you are one that is in for strong flavours, go for salted egg and matcha. The original flavour is rolled in with white sugar, so it is a little sweet. My favourite was salted egg!

#17: Pretty Palmiers 蝴蝶酥 from Hanjuku Kobo! HK$100 for 15pcs (can't remember how much is it for per pc).
Following after, I walked down to Uji-En, another matcha themed cafe. The desserts here are so expensive, gosh! Had a hard time deciding what to get as the items are in Japanese names and do not come with any explanations. Asked the server about it and he wasn't sure about the items as well and couldn't even explain what the dessert contains. Like what?!! Finally, I decided to get the matcha soft serve with fruits and kanten. I'm like what is kanten??
So the item finally came and kanten is actually jellies. The whole bowl was filled with this tasteless jellies! The soft serve also has a very milky and mild matcha taste. I feel like I kind of wasted my money and time on this dessert, I could have gone to another matcha cafe! Plus, the servers aren't providing much help and just gathering together to chat. Why is this place even recommended? I will STRONGLY NOT recommended this place!
