What to eat in Hong Kong? These are some of the places that I went that are worth recommending. You can see the full list of places that I went here, and each day is linked with the daily post. The following descriptions and recommendations are based on my opinions and experience, so it may differ from your experience. Not in any particular ranking, just grouped them according to location and the sequence that I visited.

Central 中环

Social Place 唐宫小聚

139 Queen’s Road Central, The L. Place, Central, Hong Kong [Map]

1130-1500hrs, 1800-2200hrs (daily)

MTR: Sheung Wan Station Exit E2

Social Place is a contemporary Chinese cuisine place that offers photogenic and unique traditional Chinese dishes, as well as dim sum. Don't miss out their Charcoal Custard Lava Buns (流沙包), which comes with a charcoal bun and edible gold. I had the Custard Lava Buns as well as a mangosteen-shaped bun with a filling that consists of shrimps, crabmeat and lobster broth. It doesn't really have an English name and I don't know why it's mangosteen-shaped. The bun is chewy like a mochi and fried.

#1: Charcoal Custard Lava Buns 黑炭流沙, HK$49 (3pcs).

#2: [Back] Mangosteen-shaped Buns 非常山竹, HK$49 (3pcs) - there is no mangosteen involved. Crabmeat, shrimps and lobster broth.

Kau Kee 九记牛腩

21 Gough Street, Central, Hong Kong [Map]

1230-2230hrs (Mon-Sat), Closed on Sundays

MTR: Sheung Wan Station Exit A2

Kau Kee is popular for its Beef Brisket Noodles that always spots long queues! The queue moves quickly though as all tables are sharing tables, and everyone leaves right away after they are done. Not only was the beef brisket that was amazing, the soup and noodles as well!

#3: Kau Kee.

#4: Curry Beef Brisket and Tendons Noodles 咖喱牛筋牛腩伊面, HK$60.

Oddies Foodies

45 Gough Street, Central, Hong Kong [Map]

1230-2200hrs (daily)

MTR: Sheung Wan Station Exit A2

Oddies Foodies is a gelato shop that offers innovative flavours, as well as a variety of parfaits with bubble waffle. Their waffle though taste just normal, unlike the traditional ones that is crispy on the outside, and soft and spongy on the inside. I had the 'Woods' parfait, that comes with milk gelato, salted caramel gelato, cinnamon crumbles, citrus jellies, apple compote and a cinnamon waffle.

#5: Woods (small), HK$69 - cinnamon bubble waffle, Italian milk gelato, cinnamon crumbles, salted caramel gelato, citrus jelly and apple compote.

Tsim Chai Kee Noodle Shop 沾仔记云吞面

98 Wellington Street, Central, Hong Kong [Map]

0900-2200hrs (daily)

MTR: Central Station Exit D2

Tsim Chai Kee Noodle Shop is one of the best places for Wonton Noodles. Unlike the usual versions, Tsim Chai Kee serves their noodles with 3 huge wontons instead, filled with lots of shrimp and minced meat. The standard version always comes with about 4-5 2-inch sized wontons.

#6: Tsim Chai Kee Noodle Shop.

#7: Signature Pork and Shrimp Wonton Noodles 招牌云吞面, HK$31.

Cafe Seasons 四季常餐

G/F, Shop C, Sunwise Building, 112-114 Wellington Street, Central, Hong Kong [Map]

0830-2200hrs (Mon-Sat), Closed on Sundays

MTR: Central Station Exit D2

Cafe Seasons is a no-frills dining place that offers simple, Hong Kong food. The food here is not extremely amazing, but they are comforting. Simple and comforting food. I had the Tomato and Beef Macaroni Set, which comes with a side of toast and scrambled eggs. The pasta was simple and consists of macaroni soup, topped with tomato puree and beef slices. It is something that you can whip up from home, but the meal was comforting and memorable.

#8: Cafe Seasons.

#9: Tomato and Beef Macaroni Set 四季茄牛通 (番茄牛肉通粉), HK$36 (comes with toast and scrambled eggs).

Sai Ying Pun 西营盘

Cross Cafe 十字冰室

Shop 12, G/F, Hang Sing Mansion, 48-78 High Street, Sai Ying Pun, Hong Kong [Map]

0730-2030hrs (daily)

MTR: Sai Ying Pun Station Exit B2

Cross Cafe is one of the must-go cha chaan teng in Hong Kong. Their prices are lower as compared to the popular ones like Tsui Wah, and their food is a lot better! Tsui Wah's prices are easily doubled the price. I had 5 chicken wings for a whopping price of HK$60! Decided to pop by this place after seeing their Polo Bun with Black Truffle Scrambled Eggs on Instagram. Oh boy, was it good! The Polo Bun was already really good on its own, soft bun with a nice crispy crust. The eggs have a nice strong truffle oil aroma. Think truffle fries but in scrambled eggs form instead! The eggs are also slightly runny so it was amazing, unlike most places in Hong Kong that serves fully cooked scrambled eggs.

#10: Cross Cafe.

#11: Polo Bun with Black Truffle Scrambled Eggs 黑松露炒滑蛋菠萝包, HK$29 (+HK$9 as a set for a hot drink).

MTR: HKU Station Exit B1, Sai Ying Pun Station Exit B1

Chau Kee is popular for its lava French toast. Hong Kong style French toast is slightly different. They are deep-fried instead of pan-fried. Chau Kee offers a variety of flavours and salted egg is definitely the best! But I went for the taro one instead for its pretty shade of purple!

#12: Chau Kee.

#13: Taro Lava French Toast 香芋流沙西多士, HK$32.

Wan Chai 湾仔

Trusty Congee King 靠得住靓粥

7 Heard Street, Wan Chai, Hong Kong [Map]

1100-2245hrs (Mon-Sat), 1100-2145hrs (Sun)

MTR: Wan Chai Station Exit A3

A Michelin guide recommended place and boy was the congee good! This place serves up one of the best congee I have ever had! There are lots of toppings to choose from and I just can't decide. Went for the Ting Zai Congee, which comes with duck, fish, fried pig skin, cabbage and peanuts. Added century eggs as well.

#14: Trusty Congee King.

MTR: Wan Chai Station Exit A3

Tai Cheong Bakery is famous for its fragrant buttery egg tarts! These are indeed one of the best egg tarts I have ever had! It consists of an almost melt-in-your-mouth flaky butter crust, with a firm to touch but soft to taste egg filling that tasted close to custard.

Honolulu Coffee Shop 檀岛咖啡饼店

MTR: Wan Chai Station Exit A4

Honolulu Coffee Shop is one of the oldest cha chaan teng in Hong Kong. It is also famous for its egg tarts with a flaky pastry crust that vows to have 192 layers. Its filling is pale-coloured and has a more milky taste and a texture so soft that it just disintegrates in the mouth.

#16: [Left] Honolulu version, HK$10. [Right] Tai Cheong version, HK$7.

Chrisly Cafe 华星冰室

6 Heard Street, Kwong Sang Hong Building, Wan Chai, Hong Kong [Map]

0700-2300hrs (daily)

MTR: Wan Chai Station Exit A3

Chrisly Cafe serves almost 90% similarity to Hong Kong's #1 popularity cha chaan teng, Australia Dairy Company (澳洲牛奶公司). The food here is a lot better and the servers here are much more friendly as compared, as Hong Kongers are famous for their speedy and rude behaviour. Their attitude becomes worst if you can't speak Cantonese (but you can still speak to them in English or Mandarin). You can probably skip Australia Dairy Company. Chrisly Cafe is popular for its Black Truffle items like Black Truffle Scrambled Eggs on Toast and Principal Toast - black truffle and cheese melted on toast.

Causeway Bay 铜锣湾

Tsui Wah Restaurant 翠华餐厅

20-22 Cannon Street, Causeway Bay, Hong Kong [Map]

24hrs (daily)

MTR: Causeway Bay Station Exit D1

Tsui Wah Restaurant is one of the largest cha chaan teng chain in Hong Kong. There is already 3 stores at where I stayed, one at each street. The food here is not really fantastic, not super good, but also not too bad. I had the Wonton Noodles for dinner and Satay Beef Instant Noodles for breakfast; and their soup noodles are too bland for me. There is one opposite where I stayed and operates 24hrs, so it is convenient.

#24: [Top Left] HK Milk Tea 港式奶茶, HK$21. [Front] Shrimp Wonton and Shrimp Roe Noodles 虾籽珍珠云吞面, HK$36. [Back] Swiss Chicken Wings 瑞士汁鸡翅, HK$60 (5pcs).

Ichiran Ramen 一兰拉面

Shop F-I, Lockhart House Block A, 440 Jaffe Road, Causeway Bay, Hong Kong [Map]

24 hours (daily)

MTR: Causeway Bay Station Exit C

Ichiran Ramen is voted as Japan's best tonkotsu ramen that originated from Fukuoka. You never knew why people go crazy for this till you try it. The store only sells one item and yet it managed to grow so big with many overseas outlets, that's how good it is! You can customise the saltiness of the soup, the hardness of the noodles and the spicy level. The ramen comes with 2pcs chasiu and some scallions. You can top-up for more or other toppings, but the soup and noodles are great on its own!

#27: Ichiran Ramen.

#28: Traditional ramen store seating concept.

#29: Ichiran Ramen, HK$89 (comes with 2pcs chasiu and scallions). I added a set of toppings, HK$60, comes with 1 ramen egg, 3pcs chasiu (better cut and much more tender), 2pcs seaweed and black fungus.

I Cremeria

Shop F9, Fashion Walk, 11-19 Great George Street, Causeway Bay, Hong Kong [Map]

1100-2300hrs (daily)

MTR: Causeway Bay Station Exit E

I Cremeria is a soft serve ice cream dessert shop that serves a range of matcha and Hokkaido milk soft serve desserts. They do seasonal flavours as well. I had the Hokkaido melon flavour and it was so good! It comes with a slice of Hokkaido melon and it was so juicy and sweet! The soft serve itself was amazing too and tasted very close to how a rock melon should taste like, just that with a creamy texture instead.

Mammy Pancake has been awarded Michelin guide recommended street snack for many years. Their bubble waffles are so good, it's perfectly crispy on the outside and spongy soft on the inside. They have a large range of flavours and I went for the Salted Egg Bubble Waffle. Every bubble was filled with yummy salted egg custard!

#33: The one that I got!

#34: Salted Egg Bubble Waffle 黄金鸡蛋仔, HK$35.

MTR: Tsim Sha Tsui Station Exit B2

Yum Cha is a popular dim sum and Chinese cuisine place. It is famous for its "vomit" buns - custard lava buns with eyes on them. Diners love to poke a hole below the eyes and squeeze out the liquid custard, so it looks like the bun is "vomiting". The buns are also available in matcha flavour.

1200-2130hrs (daily)

MTR: Tsim Sha Tsui Station Exit B2

Hanjuku Kobo is not really a dining place, it's more like a bakery. I tried Palmier for the first time when Maxim (美心)'s mooncakes and pastries were brought into Singapore during Mid-Autumn Festival, and I love it so much! Palmier is a kind of sweet French flaky pastry shaped like a butterfly. Here at Hanjuku Kobo, they do Palmiers is 7 different flavours - original, salted egg, matcha, purple sweet potato, chocolate, earl grey and black sesame! My favourite was the salted egg!

Jordan 佐敦

47 Parkes Street, Jordan, Hong Kong [Map]

0730-2300hrs (Fri-Wed), Closed on Thursdays

MTR: Jordan Station Exit C2

Australia Dairy Company is one of the most popular cha chaan teng in Hong Kong. I don't even know why it is so popular. Their food is actually just okay. I had the standard Instagram shots of Macaroni with Ham, and Toast with Scrambled Eggs. The macaroni was kind of overcooked as it tasted really soft and mushy. The toast was really good, but the eggs are a little too salty for me. While if I were to compare, scrambled eggs at Cross Cafe (十字冰室) and Chrisly Cafe (华星冰室) are a lot better!

#43: Australia Dairy Company.

#44: Quick Meal 快餐 (套餐) Set, HK$38 (comes with buttered bread/toast 牛油方包或多士, fried eggs / scrambled 煎蛋或炒蛋, cold / hot milk 冷或热鲜奶. +HK$2 to change drink). Macaroni with Ham 火腿通粉, HK$32.

I wanted to get the purple Starry Waffle, not sure if it's taro or purple sweet potato flavour, but it was sold out. So I got the Nightfall Starry Waffle that has a black waffle and every bubble is filled with Nutella. The waffle was not as crispy but it was good enough!

#45: Nightfall Starry Bubble Waffle 黑夜鸡蛋仔, HK$30.

Queen Sophie's tarts are said to have over 300 layers! They do egg tarts, milk tarts, as well as a range of cheese tarts and sweet tarts. Their egg tarts are really good, but Tai Cheong's is still better. The filling of milk tart tasted like Steamed Milk Pudding. I also got a Lemon Cream Tart, which is filled with lemon curd and topped with candied peel. As well as Matcha Cloud Tart, which is filled with matcha chocolate and topped with matcha marshmallow.
