Land of Smiles | Bangkok Day 3

Starting the day off with a nearby industrial-style cafe, Tempered Cooperatives, for coffee. High-ceiling double-storey cafe. I saw this cafe on IG and instantly I knew I had to visit it! Followed by On Lok Yun for breakfast. It is a popular old-school no-frills Thai-style American breakfast place. A family-run place that has been around for more than 80yrs! I have tried this place before and I really like it. The food is simple yet delicious, there is a reason for the long queues! I went with the scrambled eggs and 3 sides (ham, bacon and Chinese sausage), steamed bread with kaya and a Thai milk tea.

Next, I headed to Siriraj Medical Museum, a museum about human bodies and medical procedures, using real human specimen. The museum consisted of 3 venues within Siriraj Hospital, covering birth, death, diseases and injuries. It was kind of boring after awhile as everything was in Thai, but also kind of cool to see body parts and skeletons up close. One of the exhibit was on babies. The different stages of baby growth in the womb and babies with birth defects like conjoined and mermaid legs, preserved in formaldehyde. Another exhibit was about military injuries, showing skulls and skeletons with bullet holes for example.

Then, I headed to this cute cafe that I saw on IG, Lemoncurd Bread & Coffee! As its name suggests, they specialise in lemon-flavoured pastries and drinks. Got a lemon tart and an iced latte. The pastries and coffee weren’t that good, not recommending this place.

Then, I went to Krua Apsorn for lunch, another recommended Thai place. I got a crab omelette and basil pork with rice. They serve the rice heart-shaped, how cute! The omelette was a steal with lots of crabmeat for just 120B! The basil pork with rice was okay… Rice was kinda hard…

The weather was nice and slightly cloudy, so I thought it was a good time to visit a temple for photos! Went to Wat Benchamabophit Dusitwanaram, a Buddhist temple and one of Bangkok’s best known temples and a major tourist attraction. Its name translates to “the temple of the fifth King located near Dusit Palace”. The temple consists of marble pillars, a marble courtyard, and two large lions guiding the entrance. Hence, it is nicknamed as Marble Temple. The interiors are decorated with lacquer and gold. The cloister around the assembly hall houses 52 images of Buddha. The ashes of King Chulalongkorn is buried under the main Buddha. The temple can be found on the 5-baht coin.

Following after, I went to a cafe called Hong Sieng Kong. I chanced upon this place on tiktok, a cafe that is set in the home of an Ancient Chinese family, offering great views of the Chao Phraya River! It was a really relaxing place with live band performance (on Fridays and the weekends only)! One thing to note, there is a minimum spend of 200B required per pax. Lastly, back to Jodd Fairs again for more food!

This watermelon slushie was also amazing! Refreshing and perfect for the warm weather!
