Batam Day 2

Got up early and was so excited for the breakfast, but it turns out to be such a huge disappointment! The restaurant was huge, but they were clearly so understaff! We were greeted with so many uncleared tables, empty food trays, plates and cups were all gone, and the spread was pathetic! The chefs couldn’t replenish the food in time, the servers couldn’t clear the tables in time, and the utensils couldn’t be cleaned in time. It was not chaotic, but we had to wait around for so long. We had to queue and wait for eggs, we had to wait for food to be replenished, we had to wait for drinks to be replenished; and when they are, it’s gone in like 5-10mins! 😰 The spread includes eggs, waffles, bread, baked beans, hashbrown, fried fish, fried noodles, fried rice, steamed rice, porridge, some cakes and pastries, juices and milk. Don’t even have bacon and sausage! 😡 What the~ The only meat option is just cheap fish? We were not that full yet, but we were already tired of waiting around for food.... Planned to go for the dim sum lunch buffet at the hotel priced at IDR 130k, and there’s 50% birthday discount (tomorrow is my birthday), but decided to skip it as it looks kind of disappointing too.

#1: Breakfast at hotel. We headed to Coastarina next, not quite sure if it’s called “Coastarina” or “Ocarina”. It says Ocarina at the entrance and on the admission ticket (IDR 23k), but the giant letters at the venue spells Coastarina. It is a huge park by the beach with some amusement rides. The weather was really hot so we didn’t want to take any rides to not “burn” our butts. Luckily there was still some nice breeze, so it was still comfortable to go round taking photos and enjoy a nice stroll.

Next, we headed to One Dozen Cafe, popular for their poured seafood / seafood bucket, where they lined the table with a plastic sheet and the seafood is poured onto the table, best dined using hands! So disappointed that they were out of crabs! What a disappointing day it have been! 😂 We got the prawn combo instead in black pepper sauce and it comes with some corn, potato and sausages. The portion is quite big, good for 2-3pax to share. We also got some belacan kangkong, pandan chicken and some iced teas to go along. Okay, at least the food here is good, unlike yesterday’s cafe experience!

We still had quite a bit of time to spare before we go for our massage in the evening, so we went for a movie at Mega Mall Batam Centre. We watched Dr Dolittle and it cost only IDR 50k! The seats were so comfortable and more spacious than S’pore’s, I ended up falling asleep half the time! Having only a 4hrs sleep.... Then, we went for grocery shopping again. I bought so much bottled drinks and my friend bought so many packets of nuts and snacks, we decided to head back to the hotel first to put down our things. We initially wanted to visit a cafe next but looks like there’s not much time left so we just head over to the massage place earlier. We decided on Kalea Spa as it looks really pretty on the outside and inside. They offer packages instead of individual services, so if you like an all-in-one experience, you can opt for this place. We went for the 90mins Foot Scrub Indulgence at IDR 360k which includes foot bath, foot scrub, foot moisturiser, foot, neck, shoulder, head and hand massage. Really nice and relaxing! 👍🏻

Next, we headed to Pasir Putih Carnival Market, but sadly most of the tenants have moved out and there was only a few pub-like stalls left. Luckily, one of our Grab drivers recommended to go to “Welcome to Batam” where there’s a night market set up daily. This market was so lively and you can find lots of Indonesian food here! There are also some activities going on, like car rides, painting and kinetic sand playing for kids. We went round to buy a few items and sat down to enjoy the feast! We had Batagor (fried fish dumplings), fried egg, Bakso (beef meatball soup noodles), Ayam Sate (skewered chicken), Ayam Bakar (grilled chicken), and Indomie Goreng (fried instant noodles). A great and unique dining experience and all the items were so affordable! We also managed to catch a mini fireworks display over dinner!
