Onion Scone

[Ingredients]

  • 1/2 onion

  • 60g butter

  • 200g cake flour + extra for dusting

  • 30g sugar

  • 3g salt

  • 5g baking powder

  • 85ml milk + extra for brushing

  • Cooking oil

  • Salt and pepper

[Steps]

  1. Peel and slice onion. Sweat with salt and pepper in a frying pan until transparent. Chill until required.

  2. Place flour, salt, sugar and baking powder in a large mixing bowl. Cut butter into cubes and knead into dry ingredients until mixture resembles breadcrumbs.

  3. Make a well in the center and pour milk in. Mix well until a rough dough is formed. Knead in onion.

  4. Dust worktop with flour and transfer dough to worktop. Knead till a smooth dough is formed. Roll dough out and fold into half. Repeat twice.

  5. Roll dough out to a thickness of 2cm. Divide into 4 portions.

  6. Brush dough with milk and bake in a preheated oven of 190degC for 15-20mins.
