Soft Pretzel Dogs


[Ingredients]

  • 2 1/4tsp active dry yeast

  • 2tbsp brown sugar

  • 1 1/4tsp salt

  • 1 1/2 cups warm water

  • 4 cups flour

  • 2 cups water

  • 2tbsp baking soda

  • 2 to 3tbsp melted butter

[Steps]

  1. Dissolve yeast, brown sugar and salt in warm water. Mix in flour and stir using a wooden spoon until you get a dough.

  2. Transfer dough onto a floured worktop. Knead dough until smooth and elastic, about 8 to 10mins. Place in a greased bowl, cover and let rise for 1hr.

  3. Preheat oven 230 degC.

  4. Cut risen dough into 12 pieces. Let dough rest for 5mins. Roll each pieces into a 2 to 3 foot rope.

  5. In a large pan, bring water and baking soda to simmer over medium heat.

  6. Roll dough around hot dogs and dip into baking soda solution for 20 to 30sec.

  7. Place dipped doughs on parchment lined baking tray or greased baking tray and let rise for 15 to 20mins.

  8. Brush tops with melted butter and bake for 8 to 10mins, or until golden brown.

  9. If you don't have hot dogs, you can also roll the dough into balls to make bite size pretzel. Dip pretzels in mustard sauce, mixed with mayonnaise and ground black pepper.
