Tokyo Disneysea (opened in 2001) is nautical explorer themed while Tokyo Disneyland (opened in 1983) is designed the usual way featuring Cinderella’s castle. This two parks are the only ones not owned by Walt Disney.
Tokyo Disneysea features 7 zones - Mediterranean Harbour, Mysterious Island, Mermaid Lagoon, Arabian Coast, Lost River Delta, Port Discovery and American Waterfront. It also consists of a real hotel within the themed park, Hotel MiraCosta. In 2018, it was announced that an 8th port of call will be added and scheduled to be completed in 2023; called Fantasy Springs and will be themed to Frozen, Tangled and Peter Pan.
Mediterranean Harbour is Southern Europe themed. It is the entrance “port of call” and is styled as an Italian port city with Venetian gondolas. The park’s entrance differs from others and is V-shaped rather than featuring a main street.
American Waterfront is New England fishing village themed. It splits into Old Cape Cod zone and New York Harbour zone. It features a passenger ship modelled after a 20th-century steam powered ship and is meant to transport visitors from New York Harbour to Mediterranean Harbour. It also features an electric train ride that brings visitors to Port Discovery.
Mysterious Island is hidden secrets of Earth and under the sea themed in Victorian style. It features a giant volcano and is the park’s most prominent feature.
Arabian Coast is Arabian themed with magic and mystery. It is themed after Aladdin and is also where the carousel is.
Mermaid Lagoon is the world of little mermaid, Ariel. The area is designed to resemble King Triton's palace and features seashell-inspired architecture.
Port Discovery is futuristic themed and houses the fictional Marine Life Institute. In 2017, StormRider, a simulator ride was being replaced by a Nemo and Friends themed simulator ride.
Lost River Delta is ruins of ancient times and jungle themed, Indiana Jones vibes. It features the ruins of an ancient Aztec pyramid. You can board the DisneySea Steamer Line here, which is a boat ride, back to the entrance.
