[Virtual Travel] Taipei + Taichung Day 9

8am: Chen Ji Mee Sua

Ay Chung Mee Sua might be popular and good, but there are still many good mee sua places in Taipei, and one of it is Chen Ji Mee Sua. Some might prefer local mee sua stores over Ay Chung as it is getting more and more commercialised over the years. Chen Ji is easily voted as the BEST in Taipei by many.

9:30am: Presidential Office Building

This is the workplace for the President of Taiwan, and yes part of building is open to public to visit. The building was completed in 1919 and was badly damaged during the Japanese ruling. It was not repaired until 1947 and the restoration's completion timing coincided with the 60th birthday of President Chiang Kai Shek. Hence, the building was renamed as “Chieh Shou Hall”, meaning “long live Chiang Kai Shek”. In 2006, it was officially renamed to “Presidential Office Building”.

11am: Taipei Children’s Amusement Park

The Taipei Children’s Amusement Park is the largest publicly operated amusement park in Taiwan. The park was completed in 2014 and is divided into three main zones - Fantasy Forest and Dream Ocean, Magic Planet and Toy Soldier Kingdom. The park and rides may not be as modern as big amusement park chains like Universal Studios and Disneyland, but its admission ticket is rather affordable. The one-day pass which entitles you unlimited rides for all 13 attractions only cost NT$200.

Matsu New Village specialises in boba drinks and wheel pancakes. They do interesting fillings for their pancakes like custard with brown sugar boba, yam paste with taro balls and ikura.

6:30pm: Sai Men Tempura

Their signature dish “sai men tian bu la” (literally the store’s name) resembles the Japanese dish, oden, a boiled dish that consists of a variety of fishcakes. They have been around for more than 60yrs and still remain as popular as ever, I’m excited to try it!
