8am: Breakfast at hotel, Caversham Wildlife Park (6hrs)
After breakfast at hotel, we head up to Caversham Wildlife Park. The family-own park has over 200 species and more than 2,000 heads of animals, birds and reptiles, including Australian animals like kangaroos, koalas, possums, wallabies, wombats and Tasmanian devils. Admission ticket includes phototaking with the koalas and feeding the kangaroos.
4pm: Ciao Italia
One of the best and well-loved Italian place in Perth. Great for pastas, wood-fired pizzas, and don’t miss out their tiramisu!
5:15pm: Sunset at Elizabeth Quay, Spanda, The Bell Tower (Swan Bells)
Elizabeth Quay is a redevelopment project on the north shore of Perth Water, including modifications on the surrounding areas like Esplanade Reserve and Barrack Square. It is named in honour of Queen Elizabeth II during her Diamond Jubilee (60th anniversary of accession, 2012).
You can find a number of public art at Elizabeth Quay, one of it is Spanda. It is the world’s tallest freestanding structure made of carbon fibre, standing at 9 storeys high. The artwork consists of six gloss-white nested arches that are in the same shape but varying exponentially in size. The curves of the artwork provided a contrast against the square buildings behind it, without obscuring the city view. Gaps between each arch allowed people to walk through the sculpture.
The Swan Bells is a bell tower located at Swan River, and taking their name after Swan River. It houses a set of 18 bells hanging in a specially built 82.5m copper and glass tower. It is one of the largest musical instruments on Earth and was custom built to house the historically significant bells of Saint Martin-in-the-Fields Church, the parish church of Buckingham Palace in Trafalgar Square, London.
6pm: Subiaco Square, Grocery Shopping, Road-trip Food at Woolworths + dinner
The drive up to Kalbarri starts tomorrow morning and it is a 6.5hrs drive, if driven continuously. We will be stopping over at Lancelin for sandboarding, a stopover along the way, then stopping by Hutt Lagoon, and finally Kalbarri. So just dropping by at a nearby supermarket tonight to pick up some items for the road trip. A couple of self-heating hotpots will be perfect for the trip (if you hadn’t know, these hotpots come with heating pack and only require regular water to trigger the mechanism, and 15mins is all it needs to heat up)! We returned back to the hotel after dinner and pack-up.
