8:30am: Killing Fields (Choeung Ek Genocidal Center) and Prison S21 (Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum) Tour
The first location for today is the Choeung Ek Killing Fields and Prison S21 tour. If you love history, you can’t miss this out!
Between 1975-1978, civilians were detained and tortured at S-21, then transferred here and leave to die to avoid wasting bullets. More than 17,000 were killed and buried in mass graves. There are many killing fields all over Cambodia, but Choeung Ek is believed to be the largest. A memorial ceremony is held annually on 9th May.
Prison S21 is the memorial site of the S-21 interrogation and detention center of the Khmer Rouge regime.
1:30pm: Lunch at Eleven One Kitchen, Chill at Java Creative Cafe (Toul Tom Poung)
Then, have lunch ar Eleven One Kitchen and chill at Java Creative Cafe that is nearby, which is a café and community art space.
3:30pm: National Museum of Cambodia
Next, head over to National Museum of Cambodia, a 20mins drive away. It is Cambodia’s largest museum of cultural history. It houses one of the world’s largest collections of Khmer art.
5pm: Sisowath Quay Boardwalk + sunset
Then, walk over to the Sisowath Quay for some street shopping. Enjoy the views of Tonle Sap River and stay for the sunset.
6:30pm: Dinner at Romdeng
Lastly, head over to Romdeng for dinner, a 10mins drive away. Set in a beautiful colonial building surrounded by lush garden and a swimming pool.
