Totally slept in today and only woke up at around 10am! First stop for today is famous dim sum place, Low Yong Moh, which closes by 1pm! The place was constantly full, not sure if it is because it is a weekend, or they are just this popular! It has been pretty easy for me to get a table despite the long queues and busy hours, as I’m alone. Never seen a dim sum place so busy to a point that they didn’t have enough cooked dim sum to go round! The servers will carry trays of assorted dim sum around and you just choose which one you will like. The prices vary a little and each plate is about RM3, while a pot of hot tea is RM1.50.

After which, went to a cafe called Heesan Kopi for some iced latte! The sun here at Malacca has no mercy, it’s extremely extremely HOT! Then to the Baba and Nyonya Heritage Museum, which belongs to the Chan family of 7 generations, who converted their traditional Peranakan house into a museum, since Peranakan traditions are no longer practiced in their family due to modernisation. Many of the family members had also stop marrying Peranakans. The house was beautiful, and reminds me of Mediacorp’s Chinese drama, The Little Nyonya, which is a story of a Peranakan family in Malacca, set in the 1930s and spans over 70 years to the modern life. The drama was a very educational documentary, explaining the Peranakan culture and traditional practices.

After which, to another cafe, Mods Cafe. What’s special about this cafe is that the owner used to sell coffee by the roadside with his vintage Volkswagen van, with a coffee machine installed at the back of the van. Now with a shop, he parked his van in the shop, and still prepares coffee from the back of the van. The shop also houses his collection of antiques. Next, to another cafe called Alley No.5, and popped in for some ice-cold coffee again, the sun here is super strong!

Walked down to House of Museums Malacca, a collection of antiques and set-ups of various machines and items used in the past for various occupations such as a traditional tailor, hair salon, photographer, Chinese medical shop, coffee shop, and many more. According to the caretaker, Mr Tee, the museum is opened for about a year plus now, but it took the owner and his family 6yrs to collect all the information and the required items to create the various themes. He did a great job in explaining the various occupations and is very educational, especially for millennials like me, who don’t know how things work in the past. Everything is readily available at our convenience now with modern technology.

Next, guess what? Yup, cafe stop again! I’m a rather ambitious person when it comes to traveling, as I will want to visit as many places as possible, and try as much food as possible. Of course, I always fail to go according as planned as sometimes the actual travelling time and queuing time required weren’t as accurate as planned. However, I didn’t expect Malacca to be this small that most of the places were conveniently located in the same region, Jonker Walk, and all within walking distances. The tourist places and museums are also much smaller as compared to other countries, so it didn’t require much time to finish it. And since all the places require less time than as planned, time passed by really slowly, and sitting in the cafe was probably the only option to help kill time.
I came to Locahouz, a cafe located near to where I wanted to have dinner at. This cafe is popular for its creative and pretty coffee creations that mainly revolves around flowers such as chrysanthemum, rose, cherry blossom and lavender. Ordered the Mandarin Lavender Latte, which comes topped with an orange slice and dried lavender. The orange flavour was quite strong, but couldn’t taste much of the lavender. Lastly, satay steamboat lok lok for dinner! Glad that I decided to be there earlier instead of slacking at the cafe till dinner time, the queue was soooo long! Queued probably at least 30mins to get a seat. ‘Lok Lok’ is a skewered Malaysia street food that is cooked either boiled or grilled. Here at Restoran Capitol Satay, you get to boil your skewered food in yummy satay sauce instead! If you are a fan of this amazing peanut dipping sauce, you cannot miss out this place! Regular sticks go at RM1.20/stick, while premium items like seafood is at RM2/stick. They do have some items placed in plates like cocktail sausages, century eggs, crabstick, and so on, and these are at around RM3/plate.

Malacca is so warm, it’s burning, and I can’t wait to be back in my hotel to enjoy some 18degC aircon! Slept at around 8pm and woke up 2-3hrs later, feeling hungry, since I had an early dinner. Got some cup noodles and biscuits, and watched ‘A Dog’s Purpose’ on Netflix!
