All those Bangkok Grub

There are lots of amazing places to explore and lots of amazing food to discover in Bangkok. I wrote this entry one month after I came back from Bangkok, just so that only the best are remembered and recommended. Read my previous entry on "Visiting the Stunning Cafes in Bangkok" if you have not.

[Not in any particular ranking, based on sequence of visit.]

Invisible Coffee Room

Invisible Coffee Room is a drinks cafe that goes for a minimalist concept and other pretty drinks. The name "invisible" was given as the owner believes delicious is invisible and can only be discovered after trying, and nor can it be described by just pure words or by touch. Opened by a pair of brothers who discovered their love for coffee during their trip to Korea.

Osaka Ohsho

This place appeared while I was doing a random research about Bangkok and it must be really good to be a recommended place. It is a traditional Japanese restaurant, great for their gyozas and ramen! I had the Okonomiyaki Gyoza (pork) and Chicken Gyoza, they are indeed really good! I ate 8pcs in a row without stopping! The okonomiyaki version is served topped with okonomiyaki sauce, mayonnaise, scallions, bonito flakes and pickled ginger. I will prefer the pork ones as the filling is slightly more flavourful.

After You Dessert Cafe

After You is a popular dessert chain, famous for their kakigori and Shibuya toast. Be prepared to wait for a while, as it took me 20mins to queue and 20mins for the dessert to be served, on a weekday. I had the Thai Milk Tea Kakigori which was so good! It is somewhat in between Korea's bingsu and Taiwan's snowflake shaved ice.

Baan-Ajarn was featured on CNN Travel. This place has more foreigners than Thais, so it must be really good! So many Thai food to choose from and couldn’t decide what to get! Felt like eating some rice drenched in curry, so in the end went for the Green Curry Chicken, with a side of Thai-style Omelette.

Chatuchak Weekend Market

Chatuchak is one of the places where you can find Thai street food. However, with increasing tourism rate over the years, this place has now become a tourist spot with steep prices, instead of what used to be a traditional market. Make sure you bring along one of those handy portable fan, or an umbrella, as it can get really warm in here!

Shugaa

Shugaa is a dessert cafe that is super pretty and their items are all very pretty, innovative and good! The off-menu cakes are all so lovely, I could not decide which to get! Best of all, this place is a lot less crowded as compared with the cafes that I have been, so it is a lot easier to take photos and enjoy the experience, and with the large entrance glass panels that help bring in plenty of sunlight. This place is also great for those who love to take aesthetic shots.

0900-2100hrs (daily).

Roast

Another place to visit at The Commons is Roast at the top floor. This is probably the most recommended place at The Commons. The entire floor is catered to Roast only. The food is amazing, great vibes, great coffee. Now I understand why people choose to dine here over Thai food.

I had the Truffle Alfredo that comes with housemade tagliatelle, one of the best housemade pasta I have ever had! Usually I prefer store-bought ones over handmade as they tend to be softer without the bite (al dente) feel, but this pasta was soft yet chewy! The accompanying sauce, truffle cream sauce, was great too!

#40: [Top Left] Cappuccino, THB100. [Bottom Left] Truffle Alfredo, THB220.

Chocolate Ville

Chocolate Ville is a large European theme park restaurant. This place is beautiful! The whole ‘theme park’ consists of many buildings, shophouses, lake, real farm animals, lighthouse, windmill, anything that is required to create this small village. It was not as crowed as what says it will be, probably because of the rain, which luckily stopped when I arrived. Many staff were busy cleaning up the rainwater mess. Come early to avoid the crowd and have photos with less people. This place opens at 4pm. 2hrs is more than enough time to go round taking photos and complete your meal, unless you arrive late and so you have to cater in more time for waiting, which started to become crowded at around 6pm onwards.

There are many restaurants to sit in with different concepts, be it indoors or outdoors, by the lake or within the gardens; this whole area serves the same menu. They offer both Western and Thai dishes. I went for the Waikiki Pizza, which consists of salami, ham, cheese, mushrooms, pineapple, onions, on a sweet Thai chilli sauce base.

On Lok Yun

On Lok Yun is a popular place that sells Thai-style American breakfast. Menu choice is limited but the kaya is the anchor that brings in so much customers! Trust me, it is not like any other kaya, it makes it all worth it queueing up for. I got the popular Egg Custard Bread, which is the white bread with a side of kaya mixed with coconut milk. As well as a small portion of French toast (also recommended), some soft-boiled eggs and an Iced Thai Milk Tea.

#45: On Lok Yun.

#46: [Top Left Clockwise] Iced Thai Milk Tea, THB25. Kaya for dipping. Soft-boiled Eggs, THB15. Egg Custard (kaya) Bread, THB28. French Toast (small): THB35.

0500-1600hrs (daily).

Nikko Cafe

A Japanese-inspired cafe with zen interior design, wood, marble and plants. A really nice place to chill out! I love their menu too, which has a watercolour version of the item next to its name. The serving ware were all triangular shaped which makes photos look a little more aesthetic.

#48: Nikko Cafe.

#49: Cappuccino, THB100.

Omelette Okonomiyaki, THB180 - rice topped with a yummy omelette, huge slices of squid, bonito flakes, seaweed, okonomiyaki sauce, mayonnaise, crunchy scallions, and a side of miso soup with onions, potatoes and minced meat.
