Review: DC Comics Super Heroes Cafe

My friends and I were all fans of Superheroes and DC Comics merchandises, so when we heard that a DC Comics cafe has opened in Singapore, it is a definite must-go for us!

A while ago, we went to Hungry Heroes Cafe that was located at Tessensohn Rd, which was a superhero themed cafe - a mix of DC Comics and Marvel heroes. The place was pretty well decorated but not much effort was put into the food to match up with the theme, which was a dissappointment to us. The portions were quite small despite the pricey pricetag.

DC Comics Cafe is HUGE as compared, and comes in three sections. The DC Comics merchandise store, a sitting area for just drinks and desserts, and another sitting area for proper dining. Everything is so well decorated to match up with the theme, and when I say everything, it is really EVERYTHING! The fabric used for the cushion chairs have a Superman-logo pattern. The salt and pepper shakers are DC Comics themed, even the utensils have a small Superman logo on it!

#1: DC Comics Super Heroes Cafe.

#2: Batman VS Superman - can't wait for the movie to be out in Singapore!

#3: Cake counter and the pretty menu up on display.

#4: Barista counter.

#5: The cafe on the other side.

#6: Superhero Cupcakes - I thought it's quite pricey for a normal fondant cupcake; and to me a cupcake should be flat with frosting or fondant decor on it. A muffin on the other hand would have a bump on the top with no additional decorations. So this looks more like a fondant muffin to me.

#7: Batman and Superman-shaped Chocolates.

#8: Batman and Superman canned drinks for kids.

#9: Batman and Superman labeled bottled mineral water.

#10: Clear glass cupware with all 5 DC Comics logo printed on it.

#11: DC Comics mugs and tumblers.

#12: DC Comics Super Heroes Cafe - interior.

#13: DC Comics Super Heroes Cafe - interior.

#14: DC Comics Super Heroes Cafe - interior.

#15: DC Comics Super Heroes Cafe - interior.

#16: I thought the reserved tag was pretty cool!

#17: And has many different designs on it. I thought it would be quite embarassing to take a photo of all the different designs so I skipped it.

#18: A pretty Superman metal box at the side station.

#19: Here comes the menu! (Same as the ones put up on the walls.)

#20: So much effort put into decorating the menu! It's like a comic book with comics on every alternate page. All the dishes have their own unique name to match with the theme!

#21: The drinks are so pretty!

#22: Clark Kent's Cappuccino, $6.90. Honestly, this is the worst cup of coffee that I had. Where's the coffee? It just taste like a cup of milk with a hint of coffee.

#23: Green Lantern Hal's Hot Planet (white chocolate matcha latte), $8.90. I thought my coffee was bad. THIS, tastes 10 times worst than my coffee. No matcha taste. The white chocolate tasted like cheap chocolate and it's just bad, one sip is enough, really. For goodness sake, use some better chocolate like Frey or Lindt, or just skip out the white chocolate and do a proper cup of matcha latte.

#24: DC Comics-style Yu Sheng, $28.80. Love that they make the effort to put in some Batman-shaped crackers as well. Three types of sauce, fresh radish, fried radish, fresh salmon, fried salmon skin, jellyfish, Batman-shaped crackers, and all the other usual ingredients served in a Superman dish. Wanted to take a photo with the lid as well (which has the Superman logo) but the table was just too small to allow me to do that.

#25: Love salmon sashimi!

#26: The sauces served in a pretty Batman-shaped dish!

#27: The Yu Sheng was really good! And really sadly to say, of all the many items that we ordered, only THIS was good.

#28: Chocolate Rainbow Cake with a cute Wonderwoman chocolate label. Only the chocolate ganache was good and the rest is just so-so. Anyway, ganache is just chocolate + cream, so it should taste good. If even the ganache tastes bad, they really fail to the max.

#29: DC Comics theme takeaway container!

On the whole, it was a pretty good experience for a DC Comics fan, but do not expect much from the food, really. Just have a mindset of "I am going there to take photos and not to eat", so that you will not feel that dissappointed. I admit we spent a lot of time taking photos of the food, but again we ordered cold food (yu sheng and the cake), so it's not because of the phototaking that affected the taste of the food.
