Alice in Twenty-OneDerland

1.jpg

After planning and making birthday cakes for so many parties, it's finally my turn! I'm turning 21 two weeks later but because it's very near to Chinese New Year, I push forward the date. From the post title, I guess you already know the theme to my party. Yes, it's Alice in Wonderland!

I've always like the vintage and floral style, and always wanted a chic vintage party. Alice in Wonderland came into my mind while I was google-ing for ideas. It really matches what I wanted - florals, garden and tea party kind of feel, poker cards (i.e. blackjack, 21点 in Chinese = 21st birthday).

The venue of the place is at The Sultan. I chose the Loft Suite as it has two levels to it - downstairs for my friends and upstairs for my family and baby, so that they can have some privacy. Glad that the baby behaved very well, not cry (except when he's hungry) or whine a single bit.

The room cost $299++ per night with complimentary breakfast for 2. You can visit the site for more info. I really love how the building is designed. The exterior, interior, the room, everything is just so vintage! Really love how beautiful the room is! It makes our photo so nice with such a nice background!

I got to know this place thru blogger Qiuqiu where she held her hen's night over there, she also had a floral theme but her's is more girly, like pink and white. The room looks really nice and it really matches what I wanted. You can view pictures on how the room looks like from here. The set-up of the room is slightly different from my room but similarity is 90%.

Didn't really take photos of how the room looks like as I'm rushing to finish decorating the place. The hotel staff is so nice and helpful! She made two trips to help me carry my barang barang to my room.

[Blur pictures are taken from my iPad, due to bad lighting.

#7) Flower Chains

Really love how the flowers turned out to be like, giving the garden kind of feel. Got this idea from blogger Xiaxue on her new blogskin post.

#8) All the fake flowers to be twined up!

The flowers were like this originally. Bought the flowers and leaves from Diaso. The vine with leaves $2 each. Each stalk of flowers $2 each. I tried to choose stalks that have lots of flowers with different size and types of flowers so that I get more variety, then cut out the petals and wire them to the vine. Total Cost: 4 vines + 11 stalks + pack of wire = $32, which is $8 for one flower chain.

Movie character(s): White Queen

Mirana is the name of the Queen while Marmoreal is the name of her castle. This is the scene where the Queen is in her lab making a potion for Alice so that she can be back to her original size. Found this picture on Google and did some editing.

I printed out squares of this, draw the letters on, cut them out and then stick toothpicks at the back.

#22) Buffet Set-up

#23) Buffet Set-up

I ordered from Mei Hao 99 for $8.90 per pax, 8 items (no drinks). The price is really very reasonable coz usually caterers charge mini buffet at a very high place like around $12. And most importantly the food is nice! And they put the food in these nice black plastic containers, I thought everything would be placed in aluminium trays.

Sambal fish, butterfly prawn and fried hong kong noodles highly recommended!! Especially the fish, super nice and not very spicy. Required utensils and trash bag provided.

Paper-wrapped tissue boxes underneath the food to make the food at the back higher.

#24) Dessert Set-up

Meringue cookie, red velvet cupcake and tiramisu are self made. (Recipes can be found from this site) Eclair and longan jelly from caterer. Got this cake stand from Taobao for SGD$11 (exclude shipping)! CHEAP OR WHAT?!!

Polka dot napkins and spoon box from Diaso.

#25) White Rabbit's Tooth

Movie character(s): White Rabbit

White rabbit brand milk candy and mentos.

#26) Cheshire Tail

Movie character(s): Cheshire Cat

Got this idea when I was google-ing ideas for theme food and I saw this:

Then I was thinking which part of it looks like Cheshire? After google-ing, I realised the cartoon version of Cheshire actually looks like this:

So I thought I could use the leftover egg white from making the tiramisu to make meringue cookies and pipe them to something similar.

#27) Birthday Cake

The cost of the cake --> approx. $35!!

#28) Cut-up Cake

TOP: regular cake with cherry bits and pink colouring

BOTTOM: chocolate fudge cake with dark chocolate ganache

EXTERIOR: buttercream

FLOWERS: store-bought from Poon Huat, inedible

Same as my previous cakes, the cake is made from Betty Crocker's Cakemix.

Buttercream: whisk 250g butter until very pale and creamy. Add in sifted icing sugar until desired sweetness. Divide buttercream intoportions and add food colouring accordingly.

Cream cheese frosting (red velvet): whisk 2 parts of cream cheese with 1 part of butter until pale and creamy. Add in sifted icing sugar until desired sweetness.

Thanks for all the lovely gifts and angbaos for my birthday! Super love the pink leopard print undies and the cupcake cake thing! The rest I also like lah but like these two more.
